Why Direct Trade Coffee?

We pay our farmers double that of fair trade prices. The money goes directly to them with a small slice going to shipping and transport as well in duties/taxes in the country of origin and here in the DMV.

Why should I join the Coffee Club?

While every purchase from Cam’s Kettle supports our farming partners and a fair coffee production chain, recurring orders through the Coffee Club provide incredibly meaningful sustained support. To honor the commitment of our club members, we donate a percentage of profit per recurring order to separate fund to our farm partners. These donations fund often support crucial infrastructure and equipment purchases that would otherwise be inaccessible. Thank you for your dedication to supporting small businesses and farms!

Plus, for only the price of products delivered, we throw in free cups of coffee at Eastern Market every weekend!

Why coffee from Latin America?

We love coffee from Africa and Asia; however, our direct trade model is focused on sourcing coffee from our Latin American neighbors. We tell the stories of our coffee partners in an effort to show what it’s like to be an American, rather than a “United Statesian”***.

***In English, the only word for somebody from the United States is “American”. In Spanish, “American” translates to Estadounidense, or “United Statesian”, with the word Americano referring to all people of the Americas. This fundamental linguistic difference shows a deep seeded disregard for the rest of the Americas on the part of the United States and Canada. We at Cam’s Kettle believe that a person from Bolivia, for example, is just as “American” as someone from Washington DC, the capital of the free world. Therefore we want to help re-define what it means to be “American “ and we do so through our coffee and sharing the stories of the people who start its journey.
